Braving the Elements

Catherine Volos shivered as she saddled her husband's newest stallion. Wearing underarmor and a thick vest above her sweatshirt, she was getting ready to brave the elements.

When a sudden snowstorm hit the land, all the staff at Cypress Hill knew that the horses would be full of rank energy. They needed to be worked and though the farm had a large, heated indoor, members did not know how some of their newest members would react to the more volatile beasts of the barn.

Wanting to be safer rather than sorry with the new mounts, Catherine volunteered to take the new stallion, CH Tartarus, out for a snowy ride in the dressage ring.

The breed was built for the rugged terrain of Suðrvegr and she knew that the snow wouldn't be an issue for him. It was herself that she worried about now.

Tarn snorted softly, pawing at the paved wash stall when it was clear that his handler was lost in her own thoughts. A smile from the human's face caused the brute to toss his head and step against her impatiently.

"Calm, silly," she teased, stroking over his ears as she fitted him with his breed-specific bridle. They had learned very early on that he did not like nosebands. This allowed for the same control without testing his temper.

Catherine led him out towards the dressage ring, staying close to his side to take in the warmth of his body. She mounted outside the ring, gathering her reins and letting him enter.
